Anti-ligature
Anti-Ligature hardware is a great solution when it comes to reducing the risk of patients using any part of the door to self-harm and reduce a risk of self ligature. Below is a list of hardware to consider for anti-ligature:
Continuous hinges |
A continuous hinges is a hinges that expand to the full length of the door edge which remove any gaps between the jamb and the door leaf edge to reduce the risk of self-harm. There are both single and double action option. |
Lockset/ Furniture |

Doortop Alarm |
A door top alarm can be included on the top edge of the door as a safety feature and to prevent the risk of self-harm. The alarm can be integrated with the hospital monitoring system, which will send an emergency signal to a worker once it detects an unexpected weight applying to the top edge of the door. |
Anti-barricade
It is essential for health care staff to have the ability to gain access to a barricaded room during an emergency event. There are many ways to design a door with anti-barricade feature, one is to ensure that the door is open outward(away from the room) or incorporate special hardware such as removable or detachable doorstop to provide an anti- barricade solution.
Removable Doorstop
A removable door stop is a face mounted doorstop that acts as a normal door stop during normal use and can be removed from the door frame to allow the staff to gain access into a barricaded room.
